Illustrator- recreating an image

There were times during the last few days when I fantasized about decapitating that evil bastard who designed Adobe Illustrator. I would still like to shove the "pen tool" up in his "where the sun never shines", but will leave it at that for now.

This might look like an easy thing to recreate, but it has been immensely time-consuming for me.

II now know how my aunt felt when i taught her how to send an SMS with her first mobile: she had to learn how to turn it on first.
