Learning Camera

A late breakfast, a good cup of quality coffee(not First price instant) while playing some tunes on the stereo is a great way to spend saturday afternoon. Despite the weather being wet and late autumn, my spirits are high. Gotta love saturdays when not hung-over.
My housemates 9 year old daughter is visiting for the weekend,  running around, dancing and smiling and my biggest problem is whether to stay in Tønsberg or party in Oslo where a good friend is DJ`ing at one of my favourite nightspot - Either way I`ll have some beers tonight

Oslo Fashion Awards

Last night, my classmate Mats and I went filming for Oslo Fashion awards here in Tønsberg.  We were given very short notice so a lot of things could, and should have been better. We were in no position to nail such a task 100%, with very limited experience and planning.
I had problems with the lighting, my tripod, angle, lacking a memory card and general camera knowledge hindered me from filming the way I saw it on various Youtube catwalk clips beforehand.

However, I did learn something:

-I now know how cameras are connected to a mixer and what kind of extra cables you should bring along, depending on the output. We did not connect our camera to the mixer due to its position, but spent a few minutes researching, calling the venue as well as talking to the guys at Lydproduksjon/Soundproduction.

- I got very aware of the importance of positioning a camera, according to the lighting at the venue.
There were few places I could place it  in able to get good shots without having spotlights facing me or without too many of the people in the audience getting in the way.

Next time I will surely reserach all these factors before filming a similar show, footage could have been better.
However, Mats had a much better view with his camera and 5 times as much space on his memory card.
I even brought my desktop mac from school, attempting to empty the camera before shooting the second half of the fashion display. Not successful

Also got to know the Panasonic camera i little more in depth: the menu-system, zoom and manual focus as well as other settings.

I believe jumping into something like this is the best way to learn.  You force yourself to figure out solutions to the problems you encounter because there are no one to lean on.
This can also add a little confidence behind the camera. Important to trust yourself and your own judgments in what can be a stressful and challenging situation. Next job like this will be a lot easier.

(Edit: Been lookin through and organizing the some of  fridays fashion footage (The F.F.F.) and it's better than  expected. Mostly thanks to Mats who took a lot better pictures than I did with the Sony Camera)

We were also were also handed the task of doing something with the footage,  looking forward to creating yet another product in Final Cut.
Will try not to spend too much time doing this, knowing about the assignment in Flash which is meant to be handed in this friday.  I just enjoy editing movies a lot more than most other things we\re taught at school.
Photoshop being the runner up

First meeting with Indesign

Since Indesign is relatively similar to the other adobe programs it was fairly easy getting the hold of it. We were only supposed to make approx 6 pages, and didn't have to write it ourselves.
But since I enjoy writing a lot, I couldn`t get myself to cut and paste from the internet.
I`ve probably spent as much time with the content as with the design part.
The idea for Flipside mini-guide came to me when I met some alternative looking Italians in Oslo, asking for directions to a good nightclub. They claimed there very little information on things like what is covered in my little booklet.

In retrospect I spotted a few spelling errors and teacher wiktor also told me that I should have been more consistent with the size of the headline letters, space between characters and pictures as well as some other minor things
Looking at it now, I can see he was right.
I used both photoshop and Indesign for this assignment. Did also attempt make a map in illustrator, but decided that it was to ugly to be a part of this guide.
I would love to make a longer and improved version of this and see if it could be published.

Berlin

Had an amazing weekend in Berlin, celebrating Häkons birthday. Unfortunetely, due to all the amazingness I did not catch my plane monday morning. So here I am with one extra day in Berlin, wishing I had illustrator and Photoshop on the computer so I could do some work.
Well well, will instead go out and have one of those lovely turkish Döner kebabs that i like so much
